20 MCQsUpdated 3 November 2026

This second data interpretation set gives four more tables of the kind used in the Civil Service Exam Professional level: participants by region, monthly electricity use, a client satisfaction survey and an office budget. Questions ask for totals, averages, shares, ratios, percentage changes and comparisons.

Read the title and units first, decide which numbers you need, and base every percentage change on the earlier value. Every answer was calculated and checked by script.

  1. 1

    Table: Participants in a regional review session — Region I 120, Region II 80, Region III 200, NCR 400. How many participants were there in all?

    Correct answer: D. 800

    Add all four regions: 120 + 80 + 200 + 400 = 800. Grouping 120 + 80 = 200 and 200 + 400 = 600 makes the total quick. Always total the table before working out shares.

    Table: Participants in a regional review session — Region I 120, Region II 80, Region III 200, NCR 400. What percentage of all participants came from NCR?

    Correct answer: A. 50%

    NCR share = 400 ÷ 800 × 100 = 50%. NCR alone had as many participants as the other three regions combined. The other three regions add up to 120 + 80 + 200 = 400, which confirms the 50% share.

    Correct answer: A. 5 : 2

    Region III had 200 and Region II had 80. The ratio 200 : 80 simplifies to 5 : 2 after dividing both by 40. The order follows the question: Region III first.

    Table: Monthly electricity use of an office, in kWh — January 1,200; February 1,000; March 1,500; April 1,800. By what percentage did use increase from March to April?

    Correct answer: B. 20%

    Increase = 1,800 − 1,500 = 300 kWh. Percentage increase = 300 ÷ 1,500 × 100 = 20%, based on the earlier month, March. Dividing by April, the later month, would wrongly give about 16.7%.

    Table: Monthly electricity use of an office, in kWh — January 1,200; February 1,000; March 1,500; April 1,800. What was the total use from January to April?

    Correct answer: C. 5,500 kWh

    Total = 1,200 + 1,000 + 1,500 + 1,800 = 5,500 kWh. Pair 1,200 + 1,800 = 3,000 and 1,000 + 1,500 = 2,500 for a quick sum.

    Table: Monthly electricity use of an office, in kWh — January 1,200; February 1,000; March 1,500; April 1,800. What was the average monthly use?

    Correct answer: D. 1,375 kWh

    Average = 5,500 ÷ 4 = 1,375 kWh. Dividing by 4 is the same as halving twice: 5,500 → 2,750 → 1,375. The total of 5,500 kWh comes from adding the four months: 1,200 + 1,000 + 1,500 + 1,800.

    Correct answer: C. 14%

    35 ÷ 250 × 100 = 14%. A quick method: each client is 0.4% of the 250 clients, so 35 clients are 35 × 0.4 = 14%. Check: 14% of 250 is 0.14 × 250 = 35, matching the table.
